Can We Change Our Reality?
(c) Lori Williams 2016
Do you ever wonder whether we are all living in a sort of “dream world” — like the one Morpheus introduced us to in the movie The Matrix ? I sometimes do. Why would I ever wonder that? Well… It may be wishful thinking. Here is how I see things:
As we look around and see the multitude of manmade disasters occurring all over the planet — oil spills, pipeline leaks, the Fukushima nuclear disaster and its aftermath, the pollution of our waterways, garbage in the ocean, and the geo-engineering of our skies, we cannot help but look into the future with some fear and trepidation. What is to become of mankind? And of our beautiful blue planet? What sort of world awaits our children, grandchildren and great-grand children?
Yet, there is hope on the horizon. Thousands of Native Americans and sympathizers have travelled many miles to protest the Dakota Access Pipeline at Standing Rock. Indigenous people in Brazil are mobilizing to protest the destruction of the rain forests there. A mass division is occurring between those who are willing to take a stand and make sacrifices to save our natural resources are on one side and those who feel compelled to push forward on an untenable plan for continued consumption and rape of the earth are on the other.
